The above observations depict that due to high temperature and PAR, high isoprene emission rates were found during summer months as compared to winter and monsoon seasons where decreased temperature and PAR were reported. This might be due to the reason that, as per thermotolerance hypothesis (Sharkey and Singsaas 1995; Sharkey 1996), plants emit isoprene to protect the photosynthetic apparatus from damage caused by high temperature. According to Monson et al. (1992) and Schnitzler et al. (1996), isoprene emission increases with increasing temperature because isoprene synthesis is related to activity of isoprene synthase enzyme which is highly temperature sensitive.
